The Campaign for a Permanent Home
"Some men see things as they are, and say, 'Why?'
I dream of things that never were, and say, 'Why Not?'"
-- George Bernard Shaw, Irish Playwright
Irish Repertory Theatre Purchased Its Chelsea Home
in the Stanwick Building at 132 West 22nd Street!
Capital Campaign Continues After Raising $4.7 Million
Dollars Towards the $5.5 Million Purchase Price
Co-Founders of The Irish Repertory Theatre, Charlotte Moore
and Ciáran O'Reilly announced that the Irish
Repertory Theatre's ongoing Capital Campaign has raised $4.7 million
dollars toward the purchase of their $5.5 million home at 132 West
22nd St. Closing papers were signed with Time Equities on
February 15, 2007. M & T Bank provided financing.
The Irish Repertory Theatre will own two units
consisting of the main theatre, studio theatre, dressing rooms,
workshop, administrative offices and rehearsal studio. The
announcement comes on the heels of Rocco Landesman, the President of
Jujamcyn announcing the Theatre as the recipient of the 2007
Jujamcyn Theaters Award, worth $100,000.
The Theatre's Capital Campaign
will continue as the company seeks out 'angels' who could close the
gap between $4.7 million raised so far and the $6 million target.
It is thrilling to have come so far, and we are deeply grateful to
all our donors to date. Still, the Campaign has a long way to go. We
now invite friends and supporters of The Irish Repertory Theatre
around the world to join the Campaign for a Permanent Home by making
the most generous gift possible, and help secure ownership of our
current facilities for long into the future.
Making an gift to the Campaign for a Permanent Home is as easy
calling 212-255-0270 x10 or visiting our site and clicking the
"Donate Now!" link at the top of this page.
We welcome gifts of all sizes. We are grateful for your support of
this important and urgent effort.

About The Campaign for a Permanent Home
About The Campaign for a Permanent Home
For the past 12 years,
The Irish Repertory Theatre has occupied the 3 lower floors of a
building in New York's Chelsea neighborhood (132 West 22nd Street).
The Theatre's facility consists of a 137-seat Mainstage Theatre, a
54-seat Studio Theatre, dressing rooms, workshop / greenroom,
administrative offices, and onsite rehearsal space. IRT's space
totals 8,139 square feet.
The building is being
converted into condominium properties. IRT has determined to buy the
space with the goal of securing its permanent performance, production,
and administrative home there. Finding and relocating to another
existing theatre space would be prohibitively expensive in today's New
York City real estate market. The Irish Repertory Theatre has
embarked on a $6 million capital funding and fund-raising campaign
for: facility acquisition and renovation, endowment, and campaign
expenses.
With ownership of the
space The Irish Repertory Theatre currently leases, it will enable IRT
to continue to house all activities in one facility, free the creative
directors, management team, and volunteer leadership to focus on
producing great theatre, and allow long-term institutional planning,
development of the audience market, and consideration of new
initiatives.
