Every year our holiday card is planned in advance to capture Irish Rep and spread some holiday cheer. This year we were thrilled to commission New York-based artist Daz Ferrer, @daz.nyc, who hand-painted our card in four panels.
“I have loved creating and making art since I was young. My single mother worked a lot and left me at home with my great-grandmother, who couldn’t physically play with me which left me to discover my love for creation. Every day my mom would come home from work and I would have a new drawing, painting, or sculpture. She enrolled me into an arts middle school, and after I was accepted into an arts high school where I majored in visual arts.”
Through photos and a digital walk-through, Daz created a 3-D experience of opening the doors at Irish Rep – something we have been so grateful to be able to do this year. The card captures our front doors dress for the holiday season, our Box Office, our mainstage auditorium, and the stairs to our studio theatre.
Daz told us, “My favorite part about capturing Irish Rep in a painting was using color to show the vibrancy and warmth of the interior. I rarely get to paint interiors as I specialize in portraits. so this was a nice change and process in my artistic journey.”
We count ourselves so lucky to have worked with Daz for this year’s very special holiday card.
“I dreamed of becoming an artist but due to my traditional Filipino background, I decided a business degree would suit me better financially. Now that I have graduated with my degree, I have been able to make art a part of my life with my own business, @daz.nyc, where I encourage people of all financial backgrounds that quality, custom artwork is attainable with me. This card came to life in about a month’s worth of time and energy. The four panels were so unique in their own way, that I felt very much a part of this theater and its history. Thank you, Gráinne, Muireann, and all at Irish Rep for trusting me with this project.”
