Inspired by Sean O’Casey’s autobiography of his early life in Dublin, this film follows Johnny Cassidy (Rod Taylor) as he grows up and begins to identify as a socialist in Dublin in 1911, a time period that would come to define the themes of his work. When O’Casey meets bookshop assistant Nora (Maggie Smith), she helps him find his path in the theater as a playwright.
