Friel’s 1968 play revolves around a rundown traveling theater troupe led by proprietor Fox Malarkey, accompanied by his wife Crystal. As the play progresses, the cast begins to fall apart, with Fox questioning the point of his schemes. Disillusioned and weary of conning people who know they’re being conned, Fox takes a ruthless course to make a dream he thinks he had come true.
As part of The Friel Project, the Irish Repertory Theatre is delighted to present readings of Brian Friel’s plays. Together with the Mainstage productions, this series represents a retrospective on the work of Brian Friel.
