Actor Kwaku Fortune and Associate Producer Alana Raquel Bowers have been working together on THE BLACK WOLFE TONE, whichs runs through June 1, 2025 at Irish Repertory Theatre.
Irish Rep got to learn a little bit more about the two artists and what inspires them to pursue their passions for performing. Read on to see what they have to say!
If you could describe The Black Wolfe Tone in three words, what would they be?
Kwaku: Exhausting, Relentless, Funny
Alana: Provocative, Unrelenting, Insightful
What motivates you to write/perform?
Kwaku: To pay the rent, keep the lights on. The exhilaration is addictive.
Alana: I feel like it’s my calling to perform. To allow people to experience different perspectives and see the world in a different way.
Favorite play or musical?
Kwaku: Terminus by Mark O’ Rowe
Alana: Passing Strange by Stew
What do you like to do around the city in your free time?
Kwaku: Find cool playgrounds with swings to keep the baby occupied!
Alana: Take walks in different parks.
What’s been your favorite part of being involved in this show in New York so far?
Kwaku: Just getting to be here. It’s an honor and a privilege. New York is the home of great theatre. As soon as I win the lotto, I’m moving to the Big Apple.
Alana: Watching people watch the show and seeing how intrigued they are. Watching Kwaku mesmerize audiences is such a joy.
The Black Wolfe Tone has now made its New York premiere plus will be performed around Ireland! Where else do you hope to see the play go in the future?
Kwaku: Japan, outer space, why not? Edinburgh would be nice. Toronto. I’m easy.
Alana: I’d love for it to come back and have a life at different theatres here in the States. The Apollo. Playwrights Horizons, maybe.
