Our Year in Numbers 2023

Happy New Year to you! We here at Irish Rep are so grateful to you—your attendance, engagement, and financial support brings us to our 35th season!

This New Year’s we look back on the year and highlight a few of the many wonderful accomplishments and experiences we’ve fostered together (including an inside scoop on how the magic happens!).

Your stalwart commitment and continued enthusiasm for our productions and our mission made all of this possible!

1. More than 35,000 people attended an Irish Rep production this year! How’s that for kicking off our 35th season?

2. Over 15,000 households made a tax-deductible gift to Irish Rep! Thank you for continuing to make this number grow!

3. Credit card processing fees account for $10,000-20,000 per production, one of the many expenses inherent to the business of producing shows.

4. Over 1,000 tickets were purchased through GreenSeats, our discount program for theatre-lovers under forty years old!

5. Irish Rep contributes to the New York economy, employing 170 people this year through staff and freelance positions to facilitate our operations and productions.

6. Over fifty patrons participated in our first ever theatre trips to Dublin!

7. Twenty-nine school groups attended productions at Irish Rep this year!

8. Fourteen new play readings took place through Irish Rep! And not only in New York—there were readingsin San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Dublin through the Transatlantic Commissions Program.

9. With months of advanced planning, most productions are initially planned for an eight-week run—actors and directors are paid to rehearse for four weeks prior to performances.

10. Actors need haircuts to stay in character! Seven haircuts are included amid the Irish Rep expenses for 2023 productions.

11. Four Irish Rep staff under 35 hosted an online conversation about working in theatre, with over 100 viewers in attendance. Click here to watch the live.

12. Two Irish Rep productions this year, Endgame and Translations, were selected as New York Times Critic’s Picks!
