Our most loved musical returns to the Irish Rep stage, twelve years after it was first revived to great acclaim. Tony-nominee Melissa Errico reprises her celebrated performance as “Sharon” as we start our homecoming season in true Irish style!
The groundbreaking 1947 musical follows an Irishman who steals a feisty leprechaun’s pot of gold and escapes with his daughter, Sharon, to Missitucky, a mythical region, part of the Jim Crow South. The daughter and the sprite each find romance with others, but also encounter bigotry, economic disparity and cultural injustice.
“Finian’s Rainbow occupies its own special real estate in the universe of musical fantasy. It’s a place where talented people can be any age they choose, and where a racially divided American South can resolve its tensions with a sprinkling of gold fairy dust and a swell, soaring song. It is a fine little corner, in other words, in which to escape the shrill din of a contentious political fall.” -New York Times
★★★★“superb” –Time Out
“It’s more than only “sort of grandish.” With Errico, Silverman, Grovey, and company front and center, sounding like a cast of 50 rather than 13, this Finian’s Rainbow is downright glorious.” –TheaterMania
